Roadtrip Introduction (2018)

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my blog for my 2018 Historical Road-trip!

Here, you can see what I do during the trip, including what I visit, where I currently am, and why each site matters to our nation’s great history.

In total, we will see 15 Presidential grave-sites, 7 presidential libraries, and a number of other special museums and sites. Starting out from Dallas, Texas, we will travel to 23 different destinations across the Midwest and Mideast of the U.S.A, going as far as Niaghra Falls in New York! With my dad and a 2017 Highlander, the roads await us!

Though perhaps it would be great to mention why I am going on this trip in the first place, and why History and traveling are still very important in our culture today.

History is more than just dates and written words, it goes deeper into the very foundations of how we came to be, and why certain things are the way they are. It teaches us what worked in the past, what didn’t, and what we could do to improve our world for the better. But beyond all that, what I love most about history is that it connects all of us together. Whether your a Democrat or Republican, Liberal or Conservative, History reminds us that we are still “One Nation Under God”, and nothing can erase the fact that we all come from the same place that we all love, and that who we are, is what we were.

Traveling on the other hand, is also a terrific teacher. Of course it’s sometimes difficult to leave your comfort zone, and get outside of everything your used to, and venture to new experiences that you’ve never had before. But at the same time, seeing new things is what keeps us alive as “humans”. Not only can you escape the “Now” of your everyday life, but you get to learn about other places and cultures, which is in itself an adventure! So too does it help to increase your knowledge of certain areas and peoples, garnering yourself a bit of empathetical understanding should the need call for it. But most importantly, when all is said and done, you truly understand what your own home is like in relation to others. It’s certainly an enlightening experience to know that the place that you call home is unique in its own way from anything else, and that you feel proud that it is your own.

And with this purpose and drive, we hope to get as much out of our experience as we can!
